1. Agreement
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Wong Jin Quan, the Singapore-based operator of GentleHello (“GentleHello,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account or using GentleHello, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree, do not create an account or use the service. If you use GentleHello for an organization, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organization.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to agree to these Terms.
- You must provide a phone number you control and accurate profile information.
- You are responsible for your phone, verification codes, and activity under your account.
- You must not share verification codes or let another person impersonate you.
- You may not create an account if we previously disabled your access for serious or repeated violations, unless we give written permission.
Tell us promptly at hello@gentlehello.com if you believe someone has gained unauthorized access to your account.
3. The service
GentleHello is a private social-sharing service. People add mutual connections through a nearby, in-person flow; share photos and captions with active connections; and respond through one-to-one messages. A new connection can see your currently shared older posts.
“Private” describes GentleHello’s audience and access controls. It does not mean that a recipient cannot save, copy, or screenshot content, or that content is end-to-end encrypted. Share only with people you trust.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of photos, captions, messages, profile information, feedback, and other content you submit (“Your Content”). You confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed to submit and share it.
You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, transmit, and display Your Content only as reasonably needed to operate, secure, improve, and support GentleHello; follow your sharing choices; review reports; and comply with law. This license ends when the content is deleted from our systems, except where:
- messages remain as part of another person’s private conversation;
- limited report evidence or records must be retained for safety, legal, or accountability purposes; or
- deletion requires a reasonable period to complete across active systems.
We do not claim ownership of Your Content and do not license it to advertisers for targeted advertising.
5. Acceptable use
You must not use GentleHello to:
- Harass, threaten, stalk, exploit, or abuse another person.
- Impersonate someone, deceive people about your identity, scam, or commit fraud.
- Post or send content that is unlawful, sexually exploitative, seriously violent, or that violates another person’s privacy or intellectual-property rights.
- Share another person’s sensitive or private information without permission.
- Connect with or access an account without authorization, or evade a block or restriction.
- Probe, disrupt, overload, reverse engineer, scrape, or bypass security or access controls, except where applicable law expressly permits it.
- Use automated systems to create accounts, collect content, send bulk messages, or interfere with other people’s use.
- Submit false or abusive reports, support requests, or feedback intended to burden or mislead the service.
We may investigate suspected violations and take proportionate action, including limiting features, removing content, ending connections, preserving evidence, suspending an account, or reporting conduct when required by law or necessary to address an urgent safety risk.
6. Safety and reporting
You can report an account, post, or message from relevant controls inside the app. Reporting and blocking are separate actions. We may retain report details and limited source evidence to investigate and document the concern, including after the underlying content or an account is deleted.
We do not continuously monitor reports or messages and cannot guarantee an immediate response. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
Our Community and Safety Standards explain prohibited conduct, child-safety rules, reporting options, and how we respond.
7. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what information we handle, who can see shared content, how product analytics is bounded, what account deletion does, and your choices. By using GentleHello, you acknowledge those practices.
8. Our materials
GentleHello’s software, brand, design, text, graphics, and other materials—excluding Your Content—are owned by us or our licensors and protected by applicable law. Subject to these Terms, we give you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app for its intended purpose.
Feedback is welcome. If you send an idea or suggestion, you allow us to use it without payment or restriction, but you keep ownership of the words you submitted and we handle them according to the Privacy Policy.
9. Changes and availability
GentleHello is evolving. We may add, change, limit, or remove features; perform maintenance; or stop offering all or part of the service. We will provide reasonable notice when practical if a material change adversely affects existing users.
The service may sometimes be unavailable or experience delays, failed notifications, incomplete uploads, or device-specific problems. Keep your own copy of content you cannot afford to lose.
10. Ending use
You may stop using GentleHello or permanently delete your account at any time. Follow the account deletion instructions to understand what is removed and what may remain.
We may suspend or terminate access if reasonably necessary to protect the service or another person, comply with law, or address a serious or repeated violation of these Terms. Where appropriate, we will explain the action and provide a way to contact us.
Sections that by their nature should continue—such as ownership, retained-content licenses, disclaimers, liability limits, and governing law—survive the end of your use.
11. Disclaimers and liability
To the extent permitted by law, GentleHello is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not promise uninterrupted operation, error-free delivery, permanent availability of content, or that every person will behave appropriately. Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, goodwill, profits, or opportunities arising from use of the service. Our total liability for claims relating to GentleHello will not exceed the greater of S$100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
These limitations do not apply to fraud, wilful misconduct, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that applicable law does not allow us to limit. They also do not reduce mandatory consumer protections available where you live.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, please contact us and allow 30 days for both sides to try to resolve it informally. Subject to mandatory rights you may have where you live, the courts of Singapore will have non-exclusive jurisdiction over disputes relating to these Terms or GentleHello.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the service or law changes. We will post the updated Terms here with a new effective date. If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide additional notice in the app or by another reasonable method. Continuing to use GentleHello after the updated Terms take effect means you accept them.
